Teachers & Writers Collaborative is pleased to continue our partnerships with the graduate writing programs at The New School and New York University during 2018–2019. Each year, MFA candidates at The New School are chosen as T&W education or editorial associates, while graduate students at NYU receive the Writers in the Public Schools Fellowship.
New School education associates and NYU fellows work alongside experienced T&W teaching artists to support creative writing programs at schools, senior centers, and other sites in the community. The editorial associates serve on the Teachers & Writers Magazine Editorial Board, generating and editing content for the publication.

Cynthia Amoah, a T&W editorial associate, is a spoken word artist, performer, and writer originally from Ghana, West Africa. She is currently pursing an MFA in poetry at The New School and has been featured on the stages of TEDxDrewUniversity and TEDxOhioStateUniversity. Cynthia’s poignant poems often explore themes of community, the value of culture, and a dedication to self-identity. When not found writing or performing, Cynthia enjoys traveling, spending time with family, and wandering museums.
Evan Dent is a writer and editor living in Brooklyn and a T&W editorial associate. Evan is in his second year in the New School’s MFA program, pursuing a degree in creative nonfiction writing with a focus on literary criticism. His work has appeared in The Awl, Steps, and Kirkus Reviews, and he was awarded the 2015 Kay MacIver Prize from McGill University for undergraduate work on Canadian literature.
Bernard Ferguson (he/him) is a Bahamian poet and essayist living in New York. He is a contributor and collaborator at Button Poetry, a two-time Pushcart Prize nominee, and has work featured/upcoming in numerous journals and anthologies, including Best New Poets 2017, The Adroit Journal and Winter Tangerine, among others. Bernard is currently an MFA candidate in poetry at New York University, and he is excited to convince you that fall is not that great of a season. He is an education associate at T&W.
Jonathan Hernandez is a fiction writer and grad school student at the New School. He studied visual arts at SUNY Purchase but has always had his muse in writing.
Originally from the Bronx, his life took interesting turns – from an aircraft maintainer in the military to an IT worker in a New York city school. He used his GI Bill to return to school and pursue his dreams. He is a member of a Brooklyn-based writing group and serves as an assistant organizer and blog contributor.
Jonathan is eager to be a Teachers & Writers education associate. He is currently working on a novel which would be his first professional sale if published.
Kyle Dillon Hertz is an MFA candidate, fellow at New York University, and T&W education associate. He holds a BA from The New School, where he was an Academic Fellow in the writing program. He is at work on Midnight Voyage, a crime novel about the Pulse massacre. He lives in Brooklyn.
Charleen McClure is a poet and educator currently residing in New York City, and a 2018-2019 education associate. Her work has been published in Muzzle, Poetry Project, Kinfolks Quarterly, and elsewhere. A Fulbright scholar, she has received fellowships from the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop, VONA, The Conversation, and Cave Canem. She is a graduate of Agnes Scott and Hunter Colleges and is currently a MFA Creative Writing-Poetry candidate at New York University.
Kiri Milburn is completing her second year of the MFA program (fiction) at the New School and is at work on her first novel. She is a former litigation lawyer from Melbourne, Australia, who now teaches Kundalini yoga and cares for her Alpacas, donkeys, goats and sheep Upstate. Throughout law school, Kiri taught English to elementary school children. In Berlin, she also taught English as a second language to both children and teens. She is an education associate at T&W.
Victoria Richards is a poet, freelance writer, and second-year MFA Creative Writing student at The New School. She holds a BS degree in Public Relations from St. John’s University. Victoria has a passion for encouraging children to appreciate and create literature for self discovery. Lastly, Victoria is a connoisseur of all things Black girl magic. She is a 2018-2019 T&W editorial associate.
Ethan Victor is a second-year MFA Creative Writing student at The New School. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of California, Davis in English with a double emphasis and literary theory, with a minor in professional writing. Ethan was born and raised in Los Angeles and loves to write about the city he grew up in because it is “way more chill” than New York. He is an editorial associate at T&W.
Teachers & Writers Magazine is published by Teachers & Writers Collaborative as a resource for teaching the art of writing to people of all ages. The online magazine presents a wide range of ideas and approaches, as well as lively explorations of T&W’s mission to celebrate the imagination and create greater equity in and through the literary arts.
